Did you know addiction is a brain disease rooted in trauma? Research shows the cause of substance use, mental health disorders, and process addiction is rooted in the impact of trauma on the brain. Trauma Informed Care involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma on the clinical level that our clients experience. The clinical shift is a significant focus from “what’s wrong with you” to “what happened to you.”

This live-stream seminar will explore Substance Use and Trauma-Informed Care and ways you can implement it by leading experts in the field of Substance Abuse and Trauma counseling and answer questions to help you get better outcomes with this trauma care method.

  • Recognize what leads to trauma and trauma’s impact on the brain and how Motivational Interviewing impacts these changes
  • The concept of trauma‐informed care
  • Ways a traditional treatment setting can be modified to increase an individual’s sense of safety
  • How to incorporate trauma‐informed practices into substance use disorder treatment with diverse populations, such as military veterans, gender-specific, people with addiction, co‐occurring disorders, and persons involved in the criminal justice system
