Dr. Evelyn Leslie

Ph.D., MAC, LMFT, LAC, RPT-S

The Reverend Doctor  Evelyn Leslie is an ordained pastor in both the Baptist Church and the Pentecostal Church. Dr. Leslie, on December 31, 1994, became the first woman ordained as a minister at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado. She is the Co-Founder, Assistant Director, and a Senior Faculty Member at The Colorado School for Family Therapy, www.familyplaytherapy.net,  a 501 © (3) non-profit organization, and school that educates counselors, clinical supervisors, licensure candidates, psychotherapists, and ministers.  The School is approved and regulated by the State of Colorado Department of Higher Education Division of Private Occupational Schools (DPOS).  Dr. Leslie has also taught courses in play therapy, religious studies, theology, expressive arts therapy, addiction counseling, ethics, marriage and family therapy, psychology, and counseling at the School. She is approved by the State to teach over 19 required classes for Certified Addiction Counselor Certification in Colorado.  In her work at the School, Dr. Leslie also provides clinical supervision and directs several education programs.  She taught Marriage and Family Therapy also on the master's and doctoral levels at Argosy University. 

 

      Dr. Leslie is a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), a Clinical Fellow and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S) of the Association for Play Therapy (APT). Dr. Leslie is also an approved provider of the Jurisprudence Workshop required for psychotherapists in Colorado. Dr. Leslie was voted “ Therapist of the Year “ in 2002  by the Colorado Association for Marriage and Family  Therapy (CAMFT) Board of Directors for her clinical and supervision work. She also served as a Board Member of the CAMFT for three years and the CAMFT Newsletter Editor for four years. Dr. Leslie is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) in the State of Louisiana and a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in the State of Colorado 

 

   In September 2005 Dr. Leslie was appointed to the Mental Health Grievance Board by Governor Owens.  She was the first African American ever appointed as a Professional Member of that regulatory board.  In 2009 Dr. Leslie was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Colorado Association for Play Therapy (CAPT). In July 2012, Governor Hickenlooper appointed Mrs. Leslie to be the Mental Health and Substance Representative on the State of Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ). In July 2016 she was reappointed to the CCJJ by Governor Hickenlooper and served until June 2018. In July 2017, Dr. Leslie was appointed to the City and County of Denver District Attorney’s Mental Health Advisory Council in 2016, 

Since becoming an AAMFT Approved Supervisor in 1997, Dr. Leslie has supervised dozens of clinicians and CAC certification candidates. She has advanced training in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Denver Center for Marital and Family Studies, and Play Therapy from Rocky Mountain Solutions. In 1994. Dr. Leslie earned a MA in Psychology from Regis University. In January 2014 she earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Saybrook University. Dr. Leslie has also been trained in, and teaches, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Sex Therapy, and Sandplay Therapy
