$180.00Description: This course will provide a basic foundation for understanding how cultural competence, awareness, and sensitivity can improve the quality of care and increase positive outcomes in treatment. The students will learn the importance of informed care and the variables to be considered with clients including age, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, language, educational level, physical ability, economic status, and social class as well as racial and ethnic background. Individual differences when considered in a cultural context can become strengths and resources for recovery. All required courses seek to enhance the ability of the counselor to offer treatment services in a manner that respects gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, cultural, familial, systemic, and socioeconomic diversity. This course is intended to provide participants with basic skills to recognize and respect the behaviors, ideas, attitudes, values, beliefs, customs, languages, rituals, ceremonies, and practices characteristic of diverse groups of people. Time/Duration: Virtual Classroom meets online via Zoom or Google Meet from 8:30 – 4:00.(14 hours) for 2 consecutive days. Students will also have handouts and resource material for the class as well as the final exam and course evaluation. Enrolled students will receive an online classroom login 2-5 days prior to the class start date. Access: must download free Zoom or Google Meet application on a video-capable phone, laptop, or desktop.
