MI is counselor‐guided in that the counselor is skilled at managing ambivalence\, eliciting change‐talk and honoring the client’s autonomy about taking the next step toward a commonly agreed-upon goal” (Miller & Rollnick\, 2014). Over 1500 studies to date have demonstrated the effectiveness of motivational interviewing at increasing client engagement\, retention\, compliance\, and improving treatment outcomes. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based counseling approach used to assist individuals to identify their readiness\, willingness\, and ability to make a change. The CAC Clinical Training Program at the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) is committed to a process of integrating the Motivational Interviewing style\, spirit\, and strategies into all levels of training and to support clinical supervision of motivational interviewing as a counseling style. \nTime/Duration: Virtual Classroom meets online via Zoom or Google Meet from 8:30 – 4:00 (21 hours) for 3 consecutive days. DESCRIPTION:On September 25\, 2020\, the LPC Examiners passed a Rule requiring that after September 1\, 2021\, in order to provide clinical supervision for LPC licensure all Licensed Professional Counselors must complete a minimum of six clock-hours of clinical supervision training that includes all of the following content areas: \n(a) Role and functions of clinical supervisors; (b) Models and methods of clinical supervision; (c) Supervisory relationship issues; (d) Cultural issues in clinical supervision; (e) Group supervision; (f) Legal and ethical issues in clinical supervision; and (g) Evaluation of supervisee competency and the supervision process. \nThis course with problem-solving clinical vignettes meets this LPC Board Rule requirement. This class will also provide six hours of credit towards the 45 credit hour class the School offers towards becoming an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with the CCE. The School also provides the required twenty hours of supervision of supervision to become an ACS.

This course will consider the differences between screening and assessment and the use of assessment instruments.
