LPC/NCE Exam Preparation Workshop

The State of Colorado, and other states require that you and I pass the National Counselor Examination (NCE) written by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) in order to earn our Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC) license. This experiential and didactic workshop will help you identify ways to pass this essential exam so you can get your LPC license as soon as possible. Dr. Leslie’s workshop will expand your discipline knowledge with concise lectures and sample exams. Topics covered include:

  • The eight cognate areas (and one hidden area) that make up the LPC/NCE Exam
  • The way the cognate areas are divided (percentage and question wise) in the exam content.
  • The four types of answers to the questions in the LPC/NCE Exam.
  • Test-taking tips and advice on passing the LPC/NCE Exam.
  • Sample tests to test your current readiness for the LPC/NCE Exam.
  • Taking the LPC/NCE while you are still a graduate student with “fresh” knowledge.

LMFT Preparation Workshop


The State of Colorado, and other states require that you and I pass the Marriage and Family Therapy National Licensing Exam administered by the Association of Marriage & Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) in order to earn our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license. This experiential and didactic workshop will help you identify ways to pass this essential exam so you can get your LMFT license as soon as possible. This workshop will expand your discipline knowledge with concise lectures and sample exams.

  • review of the 16 primary MFT models represented on the exam.

MAC Exam Workshop

Course Description: This class prepares students to sit for the MAC exam.  Passing the MAC exam fulfills one of the requirements toward becoming a Licensed Addictions Counselor in the State of Colorado.

Course Description
: This class enhances the student’s understanding of the legal and ethical issues inherent in psychotherapy practice in the State of Colorado. Although no longer required for Database registration, this course will assist the student in reviewing legal requirements for psychotherapy practice in Colorado, the overview of regulatory boards for the mental health disciplines, and prepare for the Open Book Jurisprudence Examination for Database registration and/or licensure.

Course Objectives:

a.  Review relevant legal requirements for psychotherapy practice in Colorado.
b.  Focus on the regulatory boards for mental health and the Grievance process.
c.  Review requirements and exceptions for protecting client confidentiality.
d.  Examine issues of Jurisprudence in preparation for the multiple choice open book exam.
e.  Review the prohibited activities for psychotherapists. 

Course Assignments 

(a)      Read and review CRS 12-43: The Colorado Mental Health Statute, and Jurisprudence Workshop Outline
(b)     Read the articles on confidentiality, court testimony, ethics, and clinical supervision
(c)     Read the Summary of the New Law.
(d)     Read the Sample Disclosure Statement.
(e)      Read the HIPAA Guidelines.
(f)      Read the Sample Motion for Protective Order.
(g)     Read the DORA Newsletters and pay particular attention to the sanctioned psychotherapists in each issue.
(h)     Complete the Open Book DORA Jurisprudence Exam (Version 2.0) and email your answers for review by Dr. Leslie     

Class Schedule:

Step  1: After registration with the instructor and receiving all class material: please review the readings including the articles, Jurisprudence Workshop Outline, DORA Newsletters, Colorado Mental Health Statute, Ethics Articles, Summary of the New Law, HIPAA Guidelines, Sample Disclosure Statement,  Sample Motion for Protective Order,etc.

Step 2: Complete the Open Book Jurisprudence Exam (Version 2.0) after finishing all the emailed readings.

Step 3: Email your selected forty-two answers for review  to the instructor at Leslieinstitute@cs.com.

Step 4: The Instructor will review your exam answers and give his opinion about how correct your answers are. Also, let the Instructor know if you need an emailed a Certificate of Completion for documentation of  Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the NBCC or the State of California.
